One of the world's most practical and effective martial arts
Filipino Martial arts, often known as Kali, Escrima, or Arnis, is one of the most useful and effective weapons-based martial arts in the world. In unarmed combat Kali utilizes nerve disruptions, limb and bone attacks, coupled with low-line kicks, elbow and knee strikes. Our system is synthesized with empty hand techniques from other Filipino martial arts and Chuan Fa - joint locks, seizing - and throwing techniques from Comjukai (Combat Judo Karate Aikido). Kali Kuntaw is constantly evolving to address situations that our students might encounter in a street confrontation.
Kuntaw Kali Kruzada was founded in 1993 by Professor Rico Acosta. It's a martial art system that places equal emphasis on both armed (blunt and edged weapons) and unarmed self-defense. The goal of the system is to keep training as realistic as possible. This includes simulating the speed and aggression of real attacks coupled with unexpected angles of attack.
In addition to empty hand self-defense, the Kuntaw Kali Kruzada system teaches the. deployment of weapons including single stick, double stick, stick and dagger, as well as bladed weaponry.
The Kruzada Kali Eskrima curriculum has been designed to provide beginners and advanced practitioners alike with a complete set of self-defense skills. While we do have patterned flow drills in our curriculum, our ultimate goal is to enable our students to break out of the set patterns and feeds, training reflexively in un-patterned freestyle drills where the feeder attacks from random angles. This can be practiced with single stick, double stick, stick and dagger, empty hand, knife against empty hand, knife to knife and in multiple attack scenarios both armed and unarmed.
Professor Rico Acosta founded Kuntaw Kali Kruzada in 1993. He has studied the martial arts continually since the age of five and has been teaching for more than 30 years. He trained in the Philippines with some of the most notable Grandmasters.
Kali Kruzada teaches practical self-defense skills starting with footwork, moving to coordination skills and other basics, to facing challenging attacks from single and multiple attackers, armed attackers, and more. Kali has it all.
